This past Friday night I heard Julie Berry and Jeff Probst on the radio with Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew.  The latter two used to have a show on MTV called Love Line (that's also the radio show's name) where listeners call in and ask questions about sex.  Adam and Dr. Drew give their advice.

I SOOOOOOOOO wanted to call in and say something like, "I'm 35, single mom of two kids and I haven't had sex for a really long time.  I think it's because I CAN'T GET PICKED FOR SURVIVOR."

S11 -  is that the same dr.drew who was a part of the first BB season?
i've never heard the radio program, too bad you didn't get a call in.  you WILL be selected for "Survivor".  i know it, i feel it, i predict it, so be patient, relax.  it's going to happen.  '<img'> chill baby.  as for your question...with your sense of humor and personality, it's beyond me why you're "looking '<img'> "...maybe you could reserve a part of yourself for "non-survivor" thoughts.  i'm a huge hypocrite for giving that advise, because i'm completely absorbed.  ':D'

but tell me ppplllleeeaaaassssseeee!   ':p'   WHAT'S THE SCOUP ON JEFF AND JULIE?  TELL US EVERY LOVELY WORD!  WHAT DID THEY SAY???

I didn't hear the whole interview, only about 20 minutes, and Jeff and Julie's remarks were very limited.

1.  They spoke of Julie getting the "top prize" (=Jeff).  I think Jeff said something about fate when he participated in Julie's final casting call and he knew "she was the one." - something like that.

2.  They spoke of all the rain in California and Jeff said that each time he is driving through the hills on his way home he always asks himself, "Is my house still there or has it slid away?"

3.  They spoke about Chad and how they were both very impressed with his showing - that he was in much better physical shape than a lot of the men had been on Survivor and he had only had his prosthetic leg for 2 years.

4.  Someone asked if Chad had to go through any physical tests before being casted to prove his "ability to use" his prosthetic leg?  Jeff said that the casting directors used to make contestant hopefuls maneveur an obstacle course, but he wasn't sure if that was still the case.  Julie said she didn't have to do any physical tests - it was just all questions like, "Can you do this, can you do that?"

5.  Jeff said that they went over a whole slew of questions with Chad during casting about competing with his leg and went over every scenario that could have happened on the island - lost his prosthesis, prosthesis broke or missing part, infection on remaining leg, etc.

5.  And they mentioned something about Scout - not being a physical threat.  It was mainly Adam Carolla making fun of her, I think.  Jeff Probst defended Survivor by saying that they never do anything to help or assist any contestant by way of special help or the planning of the challenges.

This was late at night and I had just worked a 5-hour shift in a volunteer booth for Little League where the service was non-stop.  I've slept since then and I'm sure I don't remember exactly what was said, but the above is the best I can do.  I tried to look for (Google) some audio clips or transcripts of the show, but was unable to find any.  Sorry!

You are either here to play the game or be played by the game...

I have completely enjoyed this show.....it is fun to catch a glimpse into Jeff's head...
he even said that in a competition that if the Survivors have to hold something up over their heads for a long period of time that he would bet that the woman will win every time!

Your welcome, gem.

It wasn't a game.  It was a food booth at a Festival to raise money for our league.  We raised about $6000 Fri, Sat and Sun.

And for the record, my team is 1-3 for the season so far.  '<img'>

S11!!  that is so cool!  way to go lady!  were you one of those girls once, on a team?  i bet you were really good too.  "outta the park!"

what a wonderful thing to be involved with, what a terrific way to volunteer time.  i really admire you.  thanks for the link, i enjoyed visiting it.  i'd love to make a donation to the Lady Blazers, if that would be okay.  let me know.  i love the heart and enthusiasm of kids.  i never was good at sports, too accident prone.  i was always getting hit with the ball.  once a grounder came scooting my way...i got down low and laid my gloved hand down, ready to scoop it up.....and the ball hit the mitt, bounced up and slammed my windpipe, rendering me unconcious.  another time i managed a hit and as i was running to first base, the ball, headed in the same direction, hit me in the back of the head, rendering me unconcious.

these games must be so much fun for you.  let me know, okay?

Yes, gem, played sports all of my life.  Favs were volleyball
and track.  Received a scholarship offer for volleyball out
of high school, but didn't accept because of a boy -
BIGGEST mistake of my life - I absolutely regret it.  Yes,
I played softball too, on and off since graduating high
school and in the Army.  Played in a co-ed adult league
in recent years and usually won the female home run
trophy. (But, it was just a 210 fence!)

I've been managing a Little League team and serving on
our local board of directors for about the last 6 years.
And, looks like I'll be doing that for about another 5
years, until my youngest daughter reaches age 14 and
starts to play high school ball herself.

How generous of you to offer to make a donation to the
Lady Blazers.  I really have my eye on a "Hollywood
Slide Right" for the team that is pretty costly.
Unfortunately, single teams can't accept donations.
Donations have to be made to the league as a whole.
Thank you so much for thinking about us.

You sound like the kind of kid I love to coach.  Each year
I stress to my parents and players that even if we lose
every single game, as long as each player makes a
significant improvement, then I have done my job.  Then
I also have to teach life lessons to the girls:  not giving up,
team unity, good sportsmanship, self-confidence, and the list
goes on.  But, teaching some of these things are not as easy.

About grounders (fly balls too, for that matter):  I always try
to teach my girls to use, what I call, "insurance."  When
you're getting that grounder, always place your non-glove
hand over your glove-hand's wrist, fingers spread wide open,
to prevent the ball from popping up and wacking your face
(or windpipe in your case.)  When they don't use their insurance,
I make jokes to them like, "Forgot to pay your premium?",
"Need to borrow some money?"  Plus, having your insurance
right there, makes for a faster retrieval of the ball out of your
glove to make a throw.

Secondly, getting hit in the head.  All Little League players
are required to use batting helmets now.  They can't be
on the field (offensively) without a helmet.  There's one
umpire in our league who will throw a player out of the
game if she takes off her helmet any time prior to entering
the dugout.

Twice unconscious?  (WOW!)  Did your mom keep letting
you play?  Didn't you tell a story a while back about
wrecking your bike AND your knee?

Yes, I love doing this.  Sort of supplemental to the fact that
I always wanted to coach high school sports.  I was fortunate
to have some great high school coaches back in my day and
they were spectacular role models - some people I will never
forget.  They taught me many things about life, not just how
to hit an offspeed shot down the line.

Some Pics
My oldest daughter, last year in the Major Divison (9-12 years)

My nephew, last year, Major Divison

My youngest daugher, this year, Minor Division (7-12) Sliding - very uncommon to see girls sliding....for real!

My neice, same team as youngest daughter

Hope you enjoy!!! And thanks again, gem!

thanks for the pictures S11!  they were great to see.  i love that whole "insurance" coaching thing you do, and about paying premiums.  just reading you talking about it makes me want to watch "A League Of Their Own" again.

when i got hit in the head it was back in the day, nobody wore helmets.  the first couple of injuries were considered isolated incidents, but when any days i DIDN'T get hurt were considered the isolated incidents...yeah i was pulled.  ''

it sounds like a wonderful program. and i'd love to make a donation.  the info can be found on the web page right?  i'll look again.

good work S11 '<img'>

We're a non-profit organization, so your doantion will be tax deductable.  Just send a little note asking for a receipt to be mailed back to you.  Thanks again gem - I REALLY appreciate your generosity!!
