march - i agree with your take on what's happening 100%  '<img'>
Last night after watching the show, we sat around and tried to figure out what's really going on, and my opinion was that Walt is the power behind the whole thing.  You nailed it with the comic book-polar bear thing and also with the boring bird book-dead bird hitting window.  In addition, he was mad at his Mom for not listening and looking at something he was trying to show her, and *boom*, she comes down with some wacky blood disease and keels over dead.  The stepdad/dad guy, Brian, always knew something was different with him!
However - one hole in this theory ':D'   Walt's mystical mind powers do not explain the Frenchwoman or Ethan (who I think is her hubby and she doesn't know he's still alive-he's way too old looking to be her kid), or why the island seems to be outta whack when using the compass.
Anyways, I LOVE this show and have been hooked since the first week.  I'm afraid that we are back to re-run time next week because they didn't show any scenes for the next episode last night.  They just showed a bunch of junk from old-old shows.  What's up with that?? ''

Hi Indy,
Yes it is frustrating that next week is a rerun. Ms "X", it is the about Sayid, so if you didn't see it you should watch it.
Anyway someone I was talking to yesterday mentioned that the rerun next week is one of the shows they didn't get a chance to show during the Christmas holidays and that inorder to have this season end where they want it during the sweeps that they had to throw a rerun in there. Still:  ''
I am going to watch it because I think there is alot that can be learned from the French woman so I am going to watch try to catch any clues we might have missed the first time round.

You are right that Walt's powers does not explain the rest of the island but he sure would fit in with them.  He certainly doesn't seem to know that he has them at this point.

The reason why I thought Ethan might be the French woman's son is because she has been on the island alone for 16 years. We dont' know how old her sone was when he was taken or how long they were on the island before he was taken. So adding his approx age etc. it could fit.  Maybe - suppose?

OK here is a question for you - What about the black rock thing?  What is that all about?
Claire had a dream about it, it French woman mentioned it, When Jack and Kate found the skeletons in the cave they were covered with black rock.

march -
Good point!  Is it possible that there is a huge iron core in the center of the island?  As iron wears, it could leave a black dust or residue...
Iron would also explain why the compass is wacky and maybe even why the plane crashed in the first place. Maybe the magnetic field of this iron core is so strong that it is screwing with everybody's head, you know how magnets are supposed to be strong enough to help heal the body and keep you mind clear and all that other stuff ':<img:'>
Maybe only certain people will have an idea of what is going on by seeing it in their dreams - or those that are special, because of extrasensory powers or even insanity.  That would explain why the Frenchwoman and Ethan are goofed up - they've been exposed to it for too long.   (Side note on Ethan:  I guess I got the impression that the woman's son was fairly young when he disappeared...)
Sorry for the rambling, I'm desperately trying to find some real life answer to what's happening there!  I will be SO ticked if it turns out to be something so stupid that couldn't really happen or someone's dream.
I am looking forward to re-watching the episode about Sayid too.  I think now that we know more about the Frenchwoman and have discovered Ethan, we might pick up something more from the things that she says to Sayid.

Thanks March.... I will be definitely watching it.... at least I will get to see the "french woman"!!

But what if Ethan.... belongs to the people the french lady said she killed off.... what if she really didn't kill them all off?? What if some survived??

And if Walt is causing all these problems.... why hasn't something bad happened to his dad.... cause his dad is always making him mad??  And do you's think Walt caused the plane to go down??
I don't know.... I think that is stretching it a bit.
I'm sure Walt does have some kind of powers.... but I don't know if is powers are all that strong.... but then again.... it's a show.... and that's how things go sometimes....  feel free to give any input here!!

I guess I missed something the first time around - when did the frenchwoman say that she killed everyone?  I thought that the recording just said that everyone else was dead.  Was that something that she told Sayid?

I think on the transmission she says something about, "they are all dead...it killed them."  but if I remember correctly she told Sayid that something happened to them (sick, hurt, crazy '<img'>) and she had to kill them.  I can't really remember.
The episode where she has Sayid hostage is the episode they are repeating this week so we'll soon find out.

Yes ccubed she did she that, but she was didn't explain much to Sayid.  As ccubed mentioned in the transmission she is saying that "it" killed them but when she is talking to Sayid she says she did.  It kind of made you wonder if it was  like when Kate was saying the other week that she killed the man she loved.  Did she really killed him or did he die and she couldn't stop it and feels quilty so feels she killed him.
Wondering if it the same with the french woman because she mentions that they starting getting sick and she had to kill them.  Was she taking them out into the woods when they got to the last stages to die or what?
Which is why I want to see this episode again to pay more attention to what she is saying.
Last time I was paying more attention to Sayid.  ':p'

I am glad to know they have signed for sure for another season next year............but I think the whole show is about people just working through their own devils.

They have dreams and work out their own problems.
