We again go to production. The camera may have been off Rob at the time or the scenes deemed unsuitable for general viewership... So many things that could've warranted them wanting to give viewers a Rob-perspective as he went down. That doesn't mean that the whole thing was staged. And we didn't see Jerri go up to him exactly now did we? We simply saw her looking and then she's there trying to talk to him. For all we know, in the time it took the camera man to walk over she could've placed that cloth under his head. Many reasons why producers choose the footage they do.

As a friend mentioned, they're showing different sides of people this time around. I liked Rob's softer side. And I've come to respect him more somewhat.

Parvati (votes Coach Dub.): What do they call the girl who slayed the Dragonslayer?

Jasen777: I'd guess "Sandra."

As Rose said, I don't think there's any denying that Rob passed out and required assistance... but it did feel a bit contrived, and I think this is due to efforts not to break the fourth wall.  Although Jerri said she saw the whole thing (for all we know, she might have referred to his medical assistance), I have my suspicions that production called her over.

Survivor doesn't like breaking the fourth wall and showing the production crew that we know are always present (the only time I recall seeing a cameraman in shot was when Russell S passed out last season--presumably, the shot was too good to discard).  So what would they do if a cast-member passed out when nobody else was around?  Well, obviously, they're not going to just sit there and wait for them to be discovered, but for story purposes, it looks better for another cast-member to be filmed going to their aid.

So my theory is that Rob passed out, and some camera/sound guy did the immediate tending to him (shoes off, pillow fashioned) while somebody else hauled in the nearest contestant, who happened to be Jerri.

Well, maybe the camera man and Jerri were, oh, no, I'm just kidding. All serious and no humor is not fun.

Hubba hubba truth, or what if she was out in the woods because she was going to have a secret rendevous with Coach for some private lip locking as her wanton Survivor desire does overfloweth for him. But then Rob had to go and ruin it all? Ha!

Let's just hope one of the boot interviewers (one of who won't be Andy Dehnart btw) won't forget to ask her all about running across Rob out in the woods!

Check it out, here's where Rob said Amber pushed for him going on -

Born ‘Survivor’
‘Boston Rob’ Mariano returns to outwit rivals on ‘Heroes vs. Villains’

By Bill Burke
Thursday, February 11, 2010 - Updated 9d 19h ago

When new father “Boston Rob” Mariano was asked to put aside his life for another chance to “outwit, outplay and outlast” on the 20th season of CBS’ “Survivor,” he hesitated.

“Having a daughter 3 weeks old and then leaving her was hard,” Mariano said of his decision to take part in “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains” (premiering tonight at 8 on WBZ, Ch. 4).

“If they had asked me a month earlier or a month later, I don’t think I would’ve been able to go.”

It was his wife, former “Survivor” champ Amber Brkich, who urged the reality show warrior to take a shot. So for the third time (not counting his two runs on CBS’ “The Amazing Race”), the Canton native headed out into the unknown - Red Sox [team stats] cap perched on his head - to try to bring home the $1 million prize.

“She basically said to me, ‘Look, everything we have is because of these CBS shows. Calling you back to “Survivor” for the third time is a big honor,’ ” Mariano said. “With her support behind me and my daughter as a motivator, I went out there to give it hell.”

The teams this season are split into two camps: heroes and villains. “Boston Rob” was cast as a villain.

“The audacity of those people,” he said, then laughing. “I get it. I’ve been in the game for almost a decade now. I understand, but it’s really a matter of perspective. If you ask my wife, I’d be considered a hero in her book. But I owned it. I pretty much understand why.”

He knew contestants would be gunning for him.

“I realized going out there that I’d have a big target on me,” he said. “But if you look around, everybody had a target on their back - for whatever reason. They were either a past winner or loved by everyone. Everybody had their own target in their own way. I just went out and played my game the way I always do.”

While Mariano was able to renew a few “Survivor” acquaintances, there was one dark horse competitor that no one knew anything about: Russell Hantz, the scheming runner-up from the recent “Survivor: Samoa.”

Right off the bat, we had one guy that had never played before,” he said. “Russell, who was on 19th season. When we went out, the show hadn’t aired yet, so we had no idea who he was. When they cast someone from the most recent season, put him on an all-star version of the show, you have to ask yourself why he’s out here. I knew that there had to be a reason why he was there.”

Bay State players

Boston Rob isn’t the only local returning to “Survivor.”

Hub native Courtney Yates, a waitress and runner-up from “Survivor: China,” was best known for being one of the most outspoken players in the game - and becoming one of the most emaciated.

Lynnfield native Danielle DiLorenzo, a medical sales rep and runner-up on “Survivor: Panama,” showed a flair for burning alliances.

They both join Rob on the villains team.

There must be something about the New England accent that puts off people.

@ Danieu

Thanks for the cool Rob info. I liked knowing it.

Let me say this about Rob/Amber final. I wished they had both come out swinging and being non-apolegetic. The jury has to vote for 1 of them so if they both told everyone to kiss their you know what, that would have been perfect. Everyone acts so high and mighty, self righteous pompous @$$holes.

Neither Rob nor Amber played a bad or immoral game. I thought they both did great and either one was worhty and Amber took it all with 1 vote diff.

I thought Amber was pretty hot on that season, too. Rob made a good choice. I am glad things worked out well for them. I'd like to see rob take it now.

NE accents? Ayuh, thats fah shaw. Us Mainers know a thing or two bout that, now, don't we? Take care!

Yeah, I find it weird that the same people who hate Ben from Samoa like Russell when he's just as racist and sexist and miserable to be around and stuff. Oh, and someone had already fed their tribe moldy food as far back as Amazon when someone on Jaburu fed the rest of the tribe moldy food.

Cest, I watched the entire Samoa season, but I don't remember him being racist.  Are you mistaking this for misogyny, perhaps?

Well yeah, he was shown to be misogynist, but Betsy, Liz, Marisa, and Jaison have said in interviews he was more racist than Ben was, so well...I figure the people who saw first hand would know.
