What a travesty! Survivor host Jeff Probst was not among this year's Primetime Emmy nominees for "Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program," nor was Survivor among the crop of "Outstanding Reality - Competition Programs."
The exclusion of Jeff Probst from the hosting category has got to be one of the biggest snubs of the year. The reality host category was created in 2008, and Jeff Probst has not only been nominated every single year since, he's the only person ever to win the award. So that is four straight Emmy wins for Probst, until this year when he was not even nominated.
If that doesn't get Survivor and/or Probst fans all hot and bothered, it gets worse. It appears that Probst's place on the list was taken by...Betty White? Yes, our world's favorite old person, Betty White was nominated for "Betty White's Off Their Rockers," a show where the word "host" can be loosely applied. Seemingly, anything Betty White does for the rest of her life will be met with fanfare and award recognition - and perhaps deservedly so for the long-time TV staple - but is there any other host that has the impact of Jeff Probst on his reality show?
Other nominees include Cat Deeley ("So You Think You Can Dance"), Phil Keoghan ("The Amazing Race"), Ryan Seacrest ("American Idol") and Tom Bergeron ("Dancing With the Stars").
Survivor on the other hand, hasn't been nominated for best reality competition show since 2006, and has never actually won. This wasn't the strongest year for the show, and it is no surprise that it continues to get the cold shoulder. It is hard to swallow that shows like "So You Think You Can Dance," "Dancing With the Stars," and "The Voice" can get nominated when Survivor cannot. Also making the cut is "The Amazing Race," "Project Runway" and "Top Chef."
Probst should be OK though - next year he will throw his hat in the ring as a daytime talk show host when his new "The Jeff Probst Show" debuts this September 10th...right before the premiere of Survivor: Philippines a few days later (September 19th to be exact).
