We are still more than six weeks away from the premiere of the 25th season, Survivor: Philippines. The premise of season 25 was announced by Jeff Probst at the Live Reunion Show following the season finale of Survivor: One World, and will feature three returning players - all of which have been
medically evacuated from the game in the past.
Spoiler sites on the web have seemed to leak the supposed returnees, but no official announcement has yet to be made from CBS. Traditionally, the cast of the upcoming season will be released sometime in late August.
Jeff also spoke about the location for the next season of Survivor describing it as “One of the most treacherous yet”. The Philippines usually has about 20 major storms and typhoons a year. These raging storms bombard the tiny islands with heavy wind and rain resulting in massive flooding. Killing 100's of people almost yearly and causing thousands to flee to higher ground. The most ferocious storm to hit the region since the 1970s was recorded last year killed more than 430 people and left many missing. As with every season of Survivor the castaways are up against the elements but can these veterans( who were evacuated once already) and new contestants survive such harsh elements?
Sometimes it is not just the elements they need to survive, they also need to survive the challenges. In seasons past the challenges pushed some castaways to their limits. Russell Swan, Kourtney Moon, Mike Borassi and Jonathan Penner were all evacuated because of injures incurred during a challenge. But the most shocking happened on the Bulgarian version of Survivor.
Back in 2009 53-year-old,
Noncho Vodenicharov, had just completed one of the challenges when he collpased from a heart attack. Despite efforts by a Filipino and a Bulgarian doctor to save him, Vodenicharov died during filming.
Interestingly enough, Bulgarian Survivor was filmed at Gota Beach Resort in Caramoan township the same exact location as the upcoming Survivor: Philippines.
