Thanks to hovering helicopters, 24-hour security and threats of arrest, local boat drivers refused to take anyone anywhere near the island where much of "Survivor 25: Philippines" was being filmed this year.

It took some persistence and a few U.S. dollars for me to even get close enough to take a few photos showing fans and potential visitors an idea of what the set looks like.

Between the turquoise waters, deserted beaches, limestone cliffs and stunning sunsets, the Caramoan Islands and surrounding coastline are the crown jewels of the Philippines more than 7,000 islands. And, at least for now, they're also an incredible place to visit for any intrepid traveler looking to get off the grid for awhile.
