25 seasons and people still end up in their underwear?

Why is Russell Swan wearing a suit in this picture? Really Russell? Really? He has played the game before, he knows he will be marooned somewhere with just the clothes on his back. Look at Penner and Skupin. They look prepared, which is what I would expect from veteran players. Looks like they went shopping together, they are wearing the same pants.
Lisa Whelchel, a supposed superfan, who has never missed an episode of Survivor had only jeans to wear but she refused to walk around in her underwear. Artis was another one without any shorts. How is this still happening after 25 seasons?

I thought it was generally understood by now that the cast get limited say in what they're wearing. e.g. Cochran's sweater vest was enforced by production.
Otherwise, a suit isn't such a bad idea. Obviously, it's going to get wrecked, but you're going to get your swimsuit at some point anyway, and you can make sure you have sturdy underwear. Having something that covers your arms and legs is great for the cold nights and mosquitoes--Russell can do his gentleman-thing and give one of the ladies his jacket.
Personally, I've always thought a great item of clothing for Survivor would be a long wrap-around skirt or sarong. Strip it off immediately (use your buff as a skirt instead), and you've got a big piece of fabric to use as you wish.

Strat, that was my thoughts too. Get out of my head. When I saw Russell wearing the suit I immediately thought he would stay warm on the cold, rainy nights. You can always take things off if you get to warm. How many times have we seen people almost lose it when the rain just keeps coming and their teeth are chattering and they are miserable. That jacket might come in handy. Over dressed......we will see.

And, when did everyone start walking around in their underwear. What season? They gave up swim suits for bikini underwear and jocks. At least the girls somewhat resemble swim wear. It the guys...........big difference. Not that I'm complaining.

LT I don't remember when the underwear thing started. I am sure someone will remember. They give them back their swimsuits after a few eposides. You know once the sagging underwear has grossed us all out.

It was season 7, Survivor Pearl Islands...and they didn't give them any swimsuits, they stay in their underwear.

Lololol Bone. Did anyone else think Russell might have had a little accident. His BVD's looked a little discolored in the back end. -shiver.
Way to go Jynx. We knew you could do it.

Yeah, I remember now. Loved the fact that he was man enough to walk around in the skirt. Much cooler to... If you know what I mean.

I wonder what the producers would do if you showed up and every single piece of underwear you had was merino wool long johns, t-shirts included? I know that I'd be wearing 100% wool everything, layered and long-sleeved. I wonder if underarmor(TM) would even be allowed, as it almost always seems to have a prominent logo displayed on it, and I think TPTB frown on that?
And, old an ugly as I am, I'd have to give serious thought to simply skinny dipping, a la Tyson and others, because I think it is foolish to walk around in wet underwear in the tropics like that. (I suppose those that swim in their undies simply go commando in their outer layers afterwards, but it's not the same.) Keep those tightie whities tight, and keep 'em clean! (And obviously, go with a colour other than white, or pink, for that matter!)

Agree Mr. E. one of the men had on black, longer underwire and it wasn't as revealing. Boxers I think. Still, there are some swim suits out there that are much more attractive. I'm still a believer that iminagination is much better than some realities.
